{"id":2795,"date":"2018-10-05T17:10:44","date_gmt":"2018-10-06T00:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.k6bj.org\/?p=2795"},"modified":"2018-11-12T04:58:18","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T12:58:18","slug":"hubble-talk-and-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/k6bj.org\/wordpress\/archives\/2795","title":{"rendered":"Hubble Talk and Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Local Santa Cruz Ham Club Members,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to invite you to a special evening and event <a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/0\">on <\/a><strong><a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/0\">Thursday, Oct. 25<\/a><sup><a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/0\">th<\/a><\/sup><a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/0\"> from 7-9pm<\/a> at Cabrillo Samper Recital Hall<\/strong> in Aptos. Attached is a flyer and links to make your reservation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This two hour presentation will feature three guest speakers focusing on Space related topics of Amateur Radio, Space Sciences, and Hubble Space Telescope missions. In addition, we will have <strong>a hands-on opportunity to make a radio contact across orbiting satellites<\/strong> This will be in the parking lot and open <a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/1\">from 5pm \u2013 10pm<\/a> prior to, and during the event. <strong>Parking is free in Cabrillo Lot L <a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/2\">from 5-10pm<\/a><\/strong>, in the church parking area, or on the street. All other parking areas are patrolled and you may be ticketed without a pass.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Our guest speakers include:<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Ron Sheffield<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 the NASA Hubble Space Telescope Mission EVA Manager, who will share his story about training 41 astronauts for 6 missions to the Hubble Telescope.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Kristen McIntyre<\/u><\/strong> &#8211; ARRL Pacific Division Vice-Director, featuring an introduction to ARISS (Amateur Radio on board the ISS), a review of ARRL ISS STEM programs, and introduction to Digital Radio Communications, and overview of Scholarship programs available through the ARRL.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>UCSC Students<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 who will present their CUBE SAT Program mission, design, and launch plans from the Engineering Department of UCSC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To register, please have students (or you) use the link at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slvarc.org\/event\/radio-science-and-space\">https:\/\/wwwslvarc.org\/event\/radio-science-and-space<\/a> or use the button on the attached flyer for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your local Amateur Radio Clubs (Santa Cruz and San Lorenzo Valley) and Cabrillo Astronomy Club are sponsoring this event to provide a free, no cost, evening to celebrate the 28<sup>th<\/sup> year of Hubble operation, 60 years of NASA, 48<sup>th<\/sup> year of Amateur Radio in space and 45<sup>th<\/sup> year beginning with the STS-9 mission in November 1983 on the space shuttle and then on to the International Space Station (ISS).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Our mission<\/u><\/strong> is to show a path from High School, through our local Colleges, and into Space exploration and discovery. <strong>Please help us reach as many science students as possible. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although this event is focused for students, there will be a few free general admission tickets available for hams, parents, and chaperones for the event.
