2 Bicycle Races – Coms Needed

Upcoming next weekend, Aug. 17th and 18th, are two bicycle races in need of communications.

Saturday the 17th I will join SLO North County ARES to support the bicycle road race in San Ardo. We will be using phone, APRS and Winlink communications. I particularly need someone capable of using Winlink to move race results data. 

On Sunday the 18th the race will be at UCSC. It is a circuit race around a 3 mile loop on campus. Numerous intersecting roads and driveways need to be monitored. Volunteer shifts can be just an hour or two. 

You would be volunteering to support Velo Promo, a longtime local race promoter. This is not an ARES or club event. But road races are a great way to practice field deployment, interact with other agencies and support local sports. These are the very races where Olympic Gold Medal Winner Kristen Faulkner honed her skills to win the first USA gold in 40 years.
