POTA at Wilder 4/5/25

Keenan and I worked 20, 10 and I even got a contact from Cap on 2 meters. And Cap found Keenan on 20 meters.

Conditions were tough but we both got 10 or more for our activations. I had to stay later to get my last 5 or so contacts. We were passing the mic for two-fer contacts and running solo on the G90.

It was a good time and a beautiful Spring day. It was breezy and my antenna got blown over once but it wasn’t the end of the world.

I think about 12 people attended including Martin, Roberta, Mike, John, John, Reed. That’s all I can remember but there were a few more including a few UCSC hams.

Pete was there, started setting up and then decided to get on the road early and head south to the desert.

73 – Andrew

There were challenges. The field was thigh deep in grass. It made moving around difficult until it got trampled down. Andrew opted for the far side of the field, Tom opted for the parking lot.

We had a moderate solar storm brewing and once again a lot of noise. Moses had said he was hiking past the ranch a couple weeks ago and the electric lines were buzzing at some insulators.

I did some FT8, but everything was east of the Mississippi on 10M. Other bands were not so good for me. I couldn’t hit any HF stations with Winlink. Greg, N6CK worked my  station a bit.

John brought some home baked bread and honey from his hives.

We had a fair turn out. We shouldn’t go back until they mow the field. Let’s check out Sunset Beach for May.
