Field Day ‘25 Notes

The big task with any Summer field day has been getting the Field ready for our event.   We’ve been uncommonly lucky this year.   A construction crew has leveled the center field,  built up the road into the site and cut the grass.   In years past, we’ve had to do a lot of prep work on the field.   Not so this year.

We propose to have a site visit Saturday June 7th at 10 am.  This will allow the working people to attend.  On Saturday, each team Captain can look over the site and make adjustments.  We can place the training tent and food pavilion.  We will generate a map showing our proposed station locations, parking areas, training areas and food pavilion..

The field captains are an experienced group.  Some have been doing SFD for 25 years. This will be fairly routine for them.  Though,  We will all have our problems.  Careful prep of our mobile stations will help. In the end, we will come together to solve Radio, Antenna and any Power issues that may come up.  Hams who are local to the event may need to assist team Captains in finding odd radio bits .

In the past week, we’ve had a FD board meeting and solved a number of problems.  We had questions about scheduling teachers at the training tent.  Ben said he would speak with the teachers and make a schedule.   We could use a few more teachers.  If you want to share a ham experience,  and can speak to it for 30 minutes, please contact Ben.  Our club’s Teaching efforts at Field Day have been recognized across the nation .  We hope this will grow the club.

Our current teacher list:

John Gerhardt.   ARES

John Detke.        Meshtastic

Craig H.               HamClock

Rich Muller           Tracking down powerline noise.

Don GHA.             Ham Radio Contesting

Rich/Martin.         Starlink

Michael Mayer.    new subject

In recent events,  we have had problems with submitting our logs and bonus points accurately. This year,  Kerry said he could collect the logs, the copied bulletins and the bonus points .  We’re lucky to have a experienced ham doing this.

Rich has offered the K6MMM callsign for the event.   JV has offered the N6OTA call sign for the Gota station.

Rich has volunteered to setup his starlink to allow internet access across the field.  This should help with keeping an eye on propagation.

Gerry’s and his son will take care of the Saturday (public) lunch.  We don’t have a plan for dinner at this time.    Breakfasts will be an ad-hoc pot luck.

Lisa will be taking our station pictures this year.  She has been tasked with getting our group picture.  When she calls, we need to hustle and group up.

There is a chance that Paul will be able to help the CW team through the night.   Jason will be our Digi night operator and  security person.

The SFD Flier has posted on Facebook ARRL FD page.  It has been well received and shared.   I posted our flier on FB as an “Event”.

Roberta and Martin will not be able to attend this year.   Cap may be able to get our Winlink message sent and received.   We could use an FM operator. We stand a chance of reaching the Monterey,  San Bonito and the SF, mountain topping clubs.

There is a potential for warm weather.  Shelters will need to be adequate.  Staff and visitors will need to protect themselves from the heat, cold and occasional bug.   That said, our proximity to the Ocean will keep the temperatures better than most sites.  Also, we will have several RVs on the site.

I took a few pictures of the (par 3) entry road.  RVs will need to navigate around the tree in the first picture.  There is room if your steer to the other side..
